This week in the plus size fashion world has regrettably been a sad one with the loss of model, actress, Plus Model Magazine Creative Editor-at-Large and TV producer, Mia Amber Davis. 36-year old Davis passed away from a blood clot associated with a recent knee surgery she underwent to correct a college basketball injury. Best known for her work with Ashley Stewart, the face of Jill Scott's Butterfly Bra line and her cameo in the movie "Road Trip", Mia has left behind her husband and an endless number of family and friends. Beautiful on the inside and out, Mia was an industry leader who always encouraged and supported those trying to make it in the fashion world being full figured by connecting them with others and sharing her own journey of success.
In a 2009 interview with CNN to discuss obesity in America, 6', 300 lb Davis firmly stated, "If you are gay, you can 'play' straight. If you are a certain religion, you can 'play' another religion. You can't hide the fact that you're overweight and nor do we want to. I'm proud of the way I look, I'm proud of my body. I'm proud of all of my friends and the hard work that we do to maintain our curves."
In a statement for The Huffington Post, Editor Madeline Jones had this to say: "Davis was a wonderful wife, caring daughter and loyal friend who will be missed dearly. The PLUS Model Magazine family is deeply saddened by the loss of our sister and want to thank our readers for their support and prayers. Our June issue will feature Mia on the cover as a very special tribute to our angel."
Mia, we thank you for your influence, your beautiful smile, style and selflessness. Even though you've only graced this Earth for a little while, your presence will always be unforgettable. RIP.
